Vitamin A

Vitamin A plays many important roles in the body. The best known and most clearly understood of its roles is in vision.

Vitamin A is also important for lungs, intestines, stomach, vagina, urinary tract, and bladder and skin.

There are two types of vitamin A:
  • retinoids - that comes from animal products
  • beta-carotene - which comes from plants
Preformed vitamin A is found in liver, fish, fish oils, fortified milk and yogurt, and eggs. Margarine is also fortified with vitamin A.
The provitamin A carotenoids are mainly found in dark green and yellow-orange vegetables and some fruits like carrots, spinach and other greens, winter squash, sweet potatoes, broccoli, mangoes, cantaloupe, peaches, and apricots.

Our body doesn't need much vitamin A, and too much of it can harm health, so the best way to get it is the natural way and not from supplements.
